INVITATION LETTER LETTER

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to the "4th Deep Brain Stimulation Course and Movement Disorders Days," which will be held on October 25-26, 2024, at Ankara University. This year’s main theme is "Dystonia."

During this meeting, we will thoroughly discuss the diagnosis, medical, and surgical treatment of dystonia. The topics will be presented by physicians who specialize in dystonia both nationally and internationally. Our distinguished guest speakers, Prof. Dr. Joachim Krauss from the Department of Neurosurgery at Hannover University and Prof. Dr. Jens Volkmann from the Department of Neurology at Würzburg University, will deliver state-of-the-art lectures on dystonia treatment and participate in the educational program. The course will offer postgraduate-level training and certification, focusing particularly on medical treatment methods, DBS surgery, DBS programming techniques, and Botulinum therapy for dystonia.

As you know, the surgical and medical treatment of Movement Disorders in Turkey began in the 1960s at pioneering university clinics. Over the past 60 years, significant advancements have been made in this field in our country, and today, Turkey is among the leading countries globally in the treatment of Deep Brain Stimulation and Movement Disorders. In recent years, some centers in Turkey have performed over 1,000 Movement Disorder surgeries and DBS procedures, gaining worldwide experience. This immense potential has necessitated the formation of a new collaboration that brings together neurosurgeons and neurologists in the treatment of Movement Disorders. Additionally, over the past 30 years, both the neurosurgery community and related sections of neurology have extensively organized courses and training programs. This success has resulted from the dedication and efforts of both senior trainers and our young colleagues. We believe that the traditional meetings and training programs we organize at Ankara University are an important part of this continuum.

We will be delighted and honored to meet with colleagues who are interested and wish to participate at Ankara University on October 25-26, 2024.

Sincerely,

Prof. Ali Savas, MD, PHD
